Melanie Engram is an Interdisciplinary graduate student pursuing her Masters degree in Remote Sensing-GIS-Climate Change. She is investigating whether synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite imagery of lake ice can be used to measure methane ebullition in lakes.
Melanie worked for the last eight years as a science consultant for the Alaska Satellite Facility (ASF) here at UAF, working with SAR users from many scientific disciplines. She earned her B.A. from Colgate University in Philosophy and earned a Secondary Teaching endorsement from UAF. Over the years Melanie has taken a variety of courses in her spare time, including GIS and computer programming, as a non-degree seeking student at UAF.
Melanie moved to Alaska in 1983, and has worked and lived in several rural settings around the state. She lives in Goldstream Valley with her husband and daughter.
