| Welcome to the Institute of Northern Engineering |
|
|
The Institute of Northern Engineering provides
research and engineering solutions for the world’s cold regions
and beyond. INE conducts research in all areas of engineering, including,
but not limited to: civil and environmental, petroleum, mining, geological,
electrical, computer, and mechanical engineering. INE fosters opportunities
for faculty, post-doctoral researchers, and students to tackle these engineering
challenges. INE focuses on basic and applied research and development,
as well as research outreach.
INE promotes interdisciplinary and collaborative research and development.
INE promotes partnerships with the natural and social sciences, education,
business, geography, natural resource management, and law. INE seeks
to increase student involvement in research and development so that students
at the University of Alaska graduate at the cutting edge of engineering
and technology.

Message from the Director: |
|
The Institute of Northern Engineering is the research
arm of the College of Engineering and Mines. All research in the college
is conducted in INE. Within the institute are 5 centers in which focused
research, development and testing takes place. INE is dynamic, forward-looking,
focused on growth, and advancing areas of need for the state, nation,
and the circumpolar north. Major growth areas for INE are in transportation,
energy, housing research, and climate change. INE has a rich tradition,
but an agile structure that allows us to respond to emerging issues such
as climate change. INE is enriched through interdisciplinary research
that brings together engineers, natural and social scientists, industry,
governmental agencies and others to solve problems relevant to the health
and well-being of people and the environment.
Please use these web pages to gather information,
