Shirish L. Patil, Director of the Petroleum Development Laboratory (PDL), joined the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 1987.
Shirish, Associate Professor of Petroleum Engineering, has over 20 years research experience in the areas of Gas Hydrates, PVT/phase behavior, miscible/immiscible displacement, GTL transportation studies, asphaltene deposition studies and economics. He has managed/co-managed several multi-year U.S. Department of Energy, Alaska Science and Technology Foundation (ASTF), co-operative projects with international oil companies and other research grants.
Shirish is UAF Principal Investigator for the BP Alaska Gas Hydrate project. In addition, he was Co-PI on the Methane Hydrate Test Well Feasibility Study in Alaska with Japan Petroleum Exploration Company (JAPEX) and later was Co-Project Manager for the planning of a Methane Hydrate Test Well in Alaska, a joint study undertaken by University of Alaska Fairbanks, Japan National Oil Corporation (JNOC), United States Geological Survey and Geological Survey of Canada. He has been PI or Co-PI of over 12 successfully completed projects and has authored or co-authored over 70 technical papers and reports.
In addition, Shirish is the Chair of the Petroleum Engineering department where he oversees the Petroleum Engineering academic program delivery in Fairbanks and Anchorage. Shirish is the President of UAF Faculty Senate and Chair of the University of Alaska Statewide Faculty Alliance for 2006-07. He serves on two FNSB Commissions and several Society of Petroleum Engineers International committees. Shirish was the recipient of the 2005 Alaska Engineering Societies Engineer of the Year and 2006 Society of Petroleum Engineers Western North America Region Service awards. |
