Geological Engineering student Tonya Lloyd has won the 2009 Student Engineer of the Year Award from the Alaska Society of Professional Engineers (ASPE). This is the second year in a row that a Geological Engineering student has won the award.
Professor Debasmita Misra was Tonya Lloyd's program advisor, and was at the ASPE award banquet to share in the presentation of this coveted award. The ASPE award banquet is held every year in conjunction with E-Week, the nationally recognized week of awareness about the engineering field. This week is used to promote the technical education of students with high levels of math, science, technological literacy, and motivate youth to pursue careers in engineering. The engineering societies also try to educate the community about engineers positive contribution to society, and the achievements they accomplish.
The ASPE is a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), which is a national society of engineering professionals from multiple disciplines that supports competent and ethical engineering, leadership training, as well as the training and licensing of it members for the good of society. The Student of the Year Award is to encourage excellence in student achievement in the world of engineering education. |
