About

The UAF Geological Engineering program offers degrees at both baccalaureate and masters levels. Students interested in pursuing a doctoral degree can enroll in the interdisciplinary Ph.D. Program. Our program is among the top ten in the nation that provide quality Geological Engineering education. The Geological Engineering program at UAF offers small class lectures by first rate faculty, and hands-on field and laboratory practices.

Geological Engineers work with the earth. Our students acquire a complete knowledge of earth structure, rocks, and soils. The training gives students a solid background in geology and geo-engineering, as well as a thorough understanding of basic natural sciences, mathematics and engineering sciences.

Geological engineering students will learn computer and satellite imaging technology, groundwater hydrology, engineering/mineral economics, geophysical and geological exploration, environmental science, and design methods. Our graduates are able to blend industrial/construction engineering activities with nature to meet society's needs with minimum impact on the environment.

There are a wide range of employment opportunities with national and international construction firms, consulting engineering firms, oil and mining companies, and government agencies available to Geological engineers. Many of these opportunities exist in Alaska. For further information about the department, explore the links below which will give more detail about our mission, objectives, facilities, and ABET accreditation.
