Welcome

The Geological Engineering program offers degrees at the Bachelor of Science (B. S.), Master of Science (M. S.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) levels. The Geological Engineering B. S. degree program at UAF is presently accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Our program is among the top ten in the nation that provide quality Geological Engineering education. The Geological Engineering program at UAF offers small class sizes, lectures by first-rate faculty, and hands-on field and laboratory practices.

The mission of the geological engineering program is to advance and disseminate knowledge related to mineral and energy exploration, evaluation, development and production; engineering site selection, construction and construction material production; and groundwater and geo-environmental engineering including geologic hazards assessment, through creative teaching, research and public service with an emphasis on Alaska, the North and its diverse peoples.

Geological engineering applies geologic principles and knowledge of site-specific geology to engineering problems. Geological engineers work with the environment on a daily basis. Properties of earth materials, exploration activities, site investigations, geological hazards, and engineering geology are all aspects of geological engineering.

The program prepares students for employment with industry, consulting companies and government agencies.
