UAF Student Steven Kibler has won the IEEE NW Area Student Paper Contest held in Seattle on April 19. His paper "Real Time Optoelectrical Visualization for the Optimization of Micromouse Hardware" competed against 6 others from schools in the area (AK, ID, WA and OR). For his efforts Steven received a check of $500 and will now compete in the IEEE Region 6 Student Paper Contest (12 westernmost states). Thanks go to Assistant Professor Dejan Raskovic who is not only the UAF IEEE Student Branch Counselor, but also advised the students on the MicroMouse team, which was the topic of Steven's paper. Of note is that UAF students have placed either 1st or 2nd in the IEEE NW Area Student Paper Contest for 13 of the last 15 years (One year, UAF did not even have an entry.).
