The Civil and Environmental Engineering department offers a comprehensive undergraduate curriculum, which requires 135 hours of course work leading to a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE) in Civil engineering.
Undergraduates generally spend the first two years of their studies building on the basic core requirements such as: math, physics, chemistry, communication, and perspectives on the human condition, as well as taking applied and theoretical mechanics, thermodynamics, and intro to electrical networks. Most students begin their elective credits or engineering concentration in their third and fourth year.
Our Objective
The objective of the Civil Engineering program at UAF is to provide the needed background for those who wish to pursue engineering as a profession or who would like to engage in research or teaching.
The program recognizes that in order to be successful engineers students must have a balance of knowledge. Therefore the curriculum at UAF incorporates not only mathematics and traditional sciences such as physics, and chemistry, but also encourages students to take humanities and social sciences, and be skilled in communicating technical ideas.
UAF recognizes that it is also essential that engineers be knowledgeable of all the broad principles that underlie the practice of the profession, especially ethics.
