2009 ASCE Student Paper Award

Dear all,
As you all know our students compete annually at the American Society of Civil Engineer's (ASCE), Pacific Northwest Student Conference. Last year they achieved great success with their Steel Bridge entry, having won at regionals and then placed 8th at nationals in May. This year our students focused on other competitions at the conference. Charles 'Cutter' Degerlund competed in the Technical Paper competition with his entry: Engineering Education Ethics and Legality. His paper addressed environmental and professional ethics issues relative to sustainability. I had the privilege of editing his paper. Cutter placed 2nd out of 17 entries! Our student chapter has never before won an award for this competition. Congratulations Cutter for your fine effort, and for bringing home honors. Suzette will place the award plaque in our trophy case outside of Duckering 245.

Best regards,
Dennis Filler
