Masters
Program
Admission Requirements
for M. S.
In order to maintain the highest
quality program, the faculty members of the Environmental Program
have established stringent admission requirements. Admission
to the program is a sign that a student has demonstrated high
academic achievement and has a strong potential to successfully
complete graduate studies.
Applicants to the Environmental
Engineering graduate program must have:
- a B. S. in Engineering
with a GPA of 3.0 or better from an ABET accredited institution or equivalent;
- the equivalent of
a UAF course in basic computer techniques;
- if an international
student, a minimum TOEFL score of 575 for the paper test or 213 for the
computerized test.
Applicants to the Environmental
Quality Science Program must have:
- a B. S. in a Physical
or Natural Science with a GPA of 3.0 or better from an accredited institution
or equivalent;
- the equivalent of
one year of UAF courses in calculus and chemistry, and one semester in
basic computer techniques;
- if an international
student, a minimum TOEFL score of 575 for the paper test or 213 for the
computerized test.

Courses of studies for M. S.
A minimum of 30 credits
including required courses must be completed for an M. s. Degree. At least
24 must be at the 600 (graduate course) level. ENVE/EQS students who write
a thesis (6 credits) have to complete 24 credits of classes, students who
write a project (3 credits) are required to complete 27 credits of coursework.
Course
descriptions of all classes
We are offering three different
concentration areas that ENVE/EQS students can choose from:
1. Water supply, wastewater and
waste treatment
2. Contaminants in the natural environment
3. Environmental Science and Management
For each of these specializations,
there is a set of required courses, as specified below. However,
each student must develop an individual Graduate Study Plan with
her/his Graduate Advisory Committee within the first year of
the program (see Progress towards graduate degrees).
A typical course of studies leading to a Master's of Science
in Environmental Engineering is shown in the table below.
