Please remember this is not a warning system, but a notification system. The university itself may have little or no warning of an incident.  If there is an urgent situation, we work to contain the incident, collect information to notify our community, and to provide updates throughout the incident as deemed appropriate.

If you did not receive a text message, follow the update steps and make sure we have correct and current phone numbers listed for your UA Alert information. The UA Alert system makes a best effort to reach phones; if you are out of range or there are issues reaching your carrier we may be unable to provide the service. PLEASE NOTE: To receive the higher quality SMS texts on an SMS-enabled phone, you will receive a confirming message from our message provider. You don’t need to take any actions. Just expect the message. If, due to costs, you don’t wish to receive text message, you may text STOP at this point.

Email is not the fastest system to notify people and the server can only accept so many emails within a minute. If there is an urgent message, we will use another method, such as a phone call, to attempt to contact you as well.

If you are on your cell phone and the message is distorted, check to see what your service is like. Poor coverage can result in distorted messages. If you’re on a land-line and experience this, please report it to ua-alerts@alaska.edu.

This is the phone number displayed for the UA Alert notification system when it calls your office phone or cell phone. If you see this number calling your phone, please pick it up. It could be an important or urgent message regarding an emergency at the university.

If you did not receive any notifications at all and your information is correct, please contact ua-alerts@alaska.edu and we will review the situation. Sometimes, messages are only sent out to areas that would be affected.
 

Please try to update your UA Alert notification information. See #4, above. If unsuccessful, please report this error to ua-alerts@alaska.edu.

If you do not have texting for your phone, you will receive a phone call or an e-mail as notification in an emergency situation.

We do understand concerns regarding cyber security. Our current provider is Blackboard Connect.  If you receive an e-mail about an emergency warning, it should be addressed from “UA Alerts.” Look at the address and see if it reads “@Blackboard Connects” OR it is from a regular university source. If so, then the email is legitimate. If you’re in doubt, please use caution and contact us at ua-alerts@alaska.edu and advise us of the email.

We apologize for this inconvenience. Please report the matter to ua-alerts@alaska.edu and include your name, and how the system is contacting you. Please include in your message specific phone numbers and e-mail addresses. We will then go through our records to try and remove erroneous information.
