December 3 - 7, 2012 is College Application Week in Alaska, or CAW week! as you will see in the new promotional materials coming out to you soon. Ravens are Alaskan and smart and we believe are great messengers to get the word out about this event. The week is dedicated to going to college in Alaska. In alignment with other outreach initiatives sponsored by the University of Alaska, College Application Week seeks to foster a strong college going culture and encourages students to get started with the college application process early. Applying late, as many do, students miss out on many scholarship opportunities, have a shortened timeframe for advisors to reach out, find that classes they need may become full, or can be frustrated with financial aid processes that take time.  

During College Application Week, all Alaskan-resident applicants, applying for first time admission to either a bachelor’s or associate degree program at the University of Alaska between November 1, 2012 and December 7, 2012 will be entered into a drawing for one of six $500 Alaska College Savings Certificates.

Your support is critical. As a counselor you have access to students. You also have access to parents. Combined, (the three parties, counselors, students and parents), are vital to the decision to apply to college.

University of Alaska staff are available to assist with applications, no matter which campus they choose to apply to. All applications to University of Alaska are done through the University’s portal, UAOnline,  https://uaonline.alaska.edu/. Paper applications are also accepted by all three campuses.

Students are under no obligation to attend once they apply, but applying is a good first step to starting the college process. If a student does choose not to attend they can postpone their application for up to one year.
