Career and Technical Education

Beginning fall semester 2018, UA will reduce tuition rates by 25 percent in selected Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. The reduced tuition will apply to 50 programs and 305 courses at UAA, UAF and UAS. The tuition reduction of 25 percent will be applied on a course-by-course basis.

As an example, if the 2018-2019 lower division course tuition is $212 per credit the tuition reduction would be $53 per credit. There is no reduction to assessed fees, non-resident surcharge, or other costs.

What are Occupational Endorsements?
Occupational endorsement programs are designed to give students occupational training in a specific field. These programs are 9-29 credit hours and will be posted to the student’s transcript upon completion and after approval by the academic department. The credit hours may be applied to other undergraduate degree programs where applicable.

These skill-based programs are ideal for employers looking to affordably develop their employees’ skills, or for individuals looking to change careers or increase credentials  while seeking employment. According to national research, by 2025, 65 percent of jobs will require some form of post-secondary education. In many cases, short course credentials are all that are necessary. Many of the eligible courses can be taken online to accommodate the needs of working Alaskans.

Gainful Employment Disclosure
The US Department of Education requires colleges to disclose information for financial aid eligible programs that prepare students for gainful employment in a recognized occupation. At the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA), University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF), and University of Alaska Southeast (UAS), these programs include undergraduate certificates, occupational endorsement certificates, graduate and post-baccalaureate certificates. Each university is pleased to provide information including related employment occupations, program costs, graduation rates, and where applicable, median loan debt and job placement rates. That information can be found here: UAA Gainful Employment Disclosure, UAF Gainful Employment Disclosure, and UAS Gainful Employment disclosure.
