"We’re accountable for getting the work done on our watch.” – President Gamble
UA President Pat Gamble set the tone for leaders attending the Strategic Direction Initiative meeting in Fairbanks on July 23. He challenged the three Chancellors, their leadership teams, statewide leaders, along with faculty, staff, alumni and student governance leaders who took part in the meeting to take the necessary steps to bring about needed change in the university.
In his opening remarks the President cited a recommendation by a national accreditation organization for stronger accountability toward student success. These accreditation recommendations are being supported by legislative measures in at least 35 states that affect higher education learning institutions. The university of Alaska is taking an early step to address these recommendations in our strategic direction themes.
Dr. Terry MacTaggart , the UA Strategic Direction consultant, led the group through the process of identifying five themes. The next step is mapping the issues and problems related to each theme and begin working to find solutions.
The five Strategic Direction themes:
· Student Achievement and Attainment
· Productive Partnerships with Alaska’s Schools
· Productive Partnerships with Alaska’s Public and Private Industries
· Research and Development to Build and Sustain Alaska’s Economic Growth
