Strategic Direction Update

Kachemak Bay Campus has a new nursing lab that provides CNA nursing students hands-on interactive video conferencing opportunities. This room is at the center of learning how to assess a patient’s status and provide recommendations for the patient’s recovery.
It’s Time to Assess

The Strategic Direction Initiative team is conducting a content assessment of 80 listening sessions that took place over the last six months and the online surveys. A massive amount of input was gathered from Alaska’s community and business leaders, as well as University of Alaska students, alumni, staff and faculty.

The Next Step

On July 23, members of the Statewide Academic Council, chancellors, provosts, the president’s cabinet and UA consultant Terry MacTaggart will begin identifying the inputs and ideas that came from the listening sessions. They will also provide their input into the Strategic Direction Initiative plan.

Just how much does e-Learning count on UA campuses?  Here are some of the comments from students, faculty and staff at UAA Kenai Peninsula College Kenai River and Kachemak Bay campuses.

  • Distance courses allow me to not have to drive to Anchorage. I would like to see more flexibility in terms of how many courses I can take via distance delivery.
  •  I feel we’re cutting edge when it comes to teaching e-Learning courses. But distance delivery technical problems can really have an effect on student learning. I think we should put more effort into the trouble-shooting end of e-Learning to prevent issues before they come up.
  • Give us the tools to make short videos of our lab presentations for our distance learning community.
  • The Allied Health model of distance education would be a great model to expand on with other
    e-Learning courses.
If you haven’t had a chance to take part in a listening session, there is still time. Listening session questionnaires for the community, students, staff, faculty and alumni are all available online. All you have to do is click here ! Your comments are important to us.
