People of UA 2014

Introducing Alisa Wedin

I began my journey in the UA system as a student at UAA. After receiving my bachelor’s degree in biology I’m now pursuing a master’s degree in career and technical education. I have worked for the Cooperative Extension Service (CES) office in Anchorage for the last 7 years.

I do a variety of tasks while working for extension. As a water quality program assistant, I assisted in developing septic system education. I also worked with the area Scoop the Poop committee to encourage people to clean up after their dogs. I now assist the Anchorage office with natural resources, economic development and outreach by encouraging partnerships with the University of Alaska Center for Economic Development. Together we work on small business development and economic development projects. I have really enjoyed the opportunity to work on such a wide range of programs.

SHAPING
The Shaping Alaska’s Future theme that I most identify with is accountability to the people of Alaska. The theme reflects what I love most about working for the Cooperative Extension Service, which is its mission to give people relevant, research-based information so they can make make knowledgeable and informed decisions. Our role is to listen and bring that in-the-field feedback and experience back to the university. This process of outreach and engagement helps keep us relevant and accountable to the people of Alaska.
