Chief Risk Officer
Nancy Spink joins UA from the University of Idaho where she was the Risk Management Officer. She leads UA’s efforts to create and maintain a university-wide risk management program that utilizes disciplines such as loss prevention, risk financing, claims management and risk information systems. Nancy is responsible for and will coordinate the development and implementation of system wide programs and standards including enterprise risk management, health, safety, and environmental management, claims management, emergency management, and insurance in accordance with federal and state statutes and regulations, procedures and responsible risk management practices. During her 30 years in insurance and risk management she has specialized in innovative and effective strategies to manage risk. Nancy has demonstrated ability to analyze client needs and provide risk solutions, with her last nine years working specifically in higher education. In addition to her extensive experience she holds a B.A. in English with an Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation. Nancy is located in Fairbanks.
Yvonne Boyce has handled multi-line claims for the University’s self-insured claims program since 2000. This position provides a means to stabilize and minimize the cost of risk to the University through investigation, management and settlement of first and third party claims. Ms. Boyce is also responsible for informal training in claims and risk management processes for members of the University community, and for supervision of the Fairbanks support staff. This position is located in Fairbanks.
Emergency Preparedness Director
Rick Forkel assists the campuses across the state in creating building specific emergency evacuation plans and campus emergency response plans. He will also provides the training and certification requirements needed for campus points of contact and aid in the development and execution of on campus and university system exercises. This position is located in Fairbanks.
The claims technician provides administrative support for the claims section and is often the first point of contact for claim reporting. Ms. Nelson is a general claims information resource for campuses and other University customers and is responsible for accurate and timely claims processing and data analysis. This position is located in Anchorage.
Director, Safety, Health & Environmental
Deputy Director, Health, Safety & Environmental
Ms. Holland's responsibilities include the management of Environmental Health and Safety/Risk Management Programs and the development and implementation of statewide safety training. She is the system administrator for Intelex, an Environmental and Safety Management System. Ms. Holland is the point of contact for the statewide ergonomics program. She is also the co-lead for the HSE Review team that is responsible for conducting, planning and execution of operational inspections for the Compliance Assistance and Assurance Program. She also assists Statewide employees and departments to develop Loss Prevention projects for the Loss Prevention Assistance Program. This position is located in Fairbanks.
Ms. Spencer's responsibilities are to provide administrative support for the Risk Management Office and ensure timely and accurate claims processing and data analysis. This position is located in Fairbanks.
Brenda Vannoy, AIC, has been with Risk Services since 1994 and handles multi-line claims for the University’s self-insured claims program. This position provides a means to stabilize and minimize the cost of risk to the University through investigation, management and settlement of first and third party claims. Ms. Vannoy is also responsible for informal training in claims and risk management processes for members of the University community, and for supervision of the Anchorage support staff. Brenda also is the former Treasurer and current Secretary of the Alaska Adjusters’ Association, a non-profit educational association serving the local community. This position is located in Anchorage.
Ms. Wilson manages the University’s self-insured claims program, including auto liability property, and worker’s compensation claims. Her responsibilities include supervision of claims adjusters and support staff in Anchorage and Fairbanks. The claims manager also acts as a claims information resource to the UA community. This position is located Anchorage.
Risk Management Analyst
Ms. Varieur manages the university’s system-wide insurance programs. She provides contract review regarding insurance and certificates of insurance for the University. She performs research and collects program information pertinent to the risk management program for risk analysis and insurance specification purposes. Diana has worked in the insurance field and has been licensed for a number of years. She has worked in the agency level with captive agencies and independent agencies. She also has worked at the insurance brokerage level and has property underwriting experience. This position is located in Fairbanks.
Ms. Rainer provides office support to the System Office of Risk Services' Fairbanks and Anchorage offices. This position is located in Fairbanks.
