In November 2009, Keith Martin was appointed KUAC’s general manager. Martin’s tenure at KUAC began in August 2005 when he was hired as director of engineering and technology. In 2011, KUAC was recognized as the number one most-listened to FM station in Interior Alaska.
During his four years in that capacity, Martin took charge of KUAC’s digital television conversion; rebuilt television master control; introduced multi-casting technology for KUAC television through the addition of channels 9.2 and 9.3 and 9.4 – WORLD and CREATE and UATV and recently adding audio channel 9.5 and 9.6. He oversaw the replacement of KUAC’s 30+ year-old television antenna and inadequate digital transmitter to enhance the digital public television service across the Interior.
Additionally, Martin oversaw the upgrade and replacement of obsolete radio equipment. This has cemented KUAC-FM as a leader in new and emerging technologies, with the introduction of FM “HD” which now makes possible CD-quality sound over the radio as well as digital multicasting.
Since his arrival at KUAC, Martin has been a key member of the team of experts who have built a culture of philanthropy, excellence in programming and production and cutting-edge broadcasting technology. Martin has 29 years of experience in television and radio broadcasting technology and engineering, and his work on KUAC’s television rechannelization project was cited in national industry journal Cable and Broadcast, “KUAC Makes Unusual Digital Switch: Alaska station goes from UHF to VHF.”
