Susan Phillips began her career at the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 2001, starting as a payroll and personnel technician in the Cooperative Extension, School of Natural Resources and AFES business office. She moved to the Provost’s Fiscal Office in 2003 as a fiscal officer for Provost Paul Reichardt. Within a few years, Phillips had worked her way up to her current position of Executive Officer of the Central Administration Fiscal Office.
Phillips manages an office of three staff members (two Fiscal Technicians and one Grant Fiscal Officer) who provide services to the Chancellor’s Office, EEO, Governance, the Provost’s Office, UA Press, the Graduate School, PAIR, Faculty Development, the Resilience and Adaptation Program (RAP), and all the General Studies departments (Accreditation, Student Support Services, Academic Advising, Testing Services, Honor’s Program, Undergraduate Research and Scholarly Activity (URSA), Upward Bound and Comprehensive Advising). She provides guidance, fiscal oversight, reporting and budget management for the fund 1 budgets for each of those departments. Phillips also ensures that all the grants located in those departments are properly managed and reported by her Grant Fiscal Officer.
Before working for the University, Phillips was in the travel industry for 17 years. She worked at many local travel agencies as well as being the Complex Army Manager for the SatoTravel locations on Army installations throughout Alaska in the early 90s. The highlight of her travel industry career, Phillips owned her own travel agency (North Pole Travel) before coming to work for UAF.
Phillips was born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska.
