Jim MacKenzie, assistant vice chancellor of Development of UAA, is an alumni and lifelong Alaskan. Prior to joining the team at UAA, MacKenzie worked in a variety of capacities in Anchorage's non-profit community. MacKenzie has served as interim director of the Safe Harbor Inn and as the director of development & communications at Food Bank of Alaska. He served as the Deputy Executive Officer of the Alaska Humanities Forum, where he also worked as Program Director for Leadership Anchorage. He graduated from the University of Puget Sound in 1986 with a Bachelors of Art in English Literature and is a graduate of UAA's Masters of Public Administration Program. Fluent in Japanese, MacKenzie has worked in Japanese organizations for more than 20 years, and worked for more than a decade as Special Assistant for the Consulate-General of Japan in Anchorage. MacKenzie graduated from the Fujitsu sponsored Japan-America Institute of Management Science in Hawaii in 1990, and taught English in Japanese public and private secondary schools as a Monbusho English Fellow in Fukui prefecture from 1986-1988. MacKenzie has traveled extensively throughout North & Southeast Asia as well as Australia, yet loves living in Alaska. He spends every moment he can laughing and enjoying time with his wife Melinda and their four children.
