Dr. Gary A. Rice became Director of Institutional, Planning, Research
and Assessment at the University of Alaska Anchorage in January 2001.
He was recently designated as Associate Vice Provost of Institutional
Research.  Gary received his Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Experimental
Psychology (1962) and Master of Science (M.S.) (1964) in School
Psychology from University of Idaho and his PhD in Institutional
Research from Washington State University in 1973.  Gary has over 40
years of institutional research and teaching experience in all levels of
public higher education:  Yakima Valley College (Washington), College of
DuPage (Illinois), University of Washington, and Indiana University of
Pennsylvania.  While Director of Institutional Studies at UW, he served
as national coordinator of the AAUDE Data Exchange which was comprised
of 40+ Doctoral Research I universities.  He has taught psychology and
statistics at both undergraduate and graduate levels.  Gary has done
private consulting in designing and installing management information
systems for higher education institutions.
