About the UAF web server
The UAF webserver (www.uaf.edu) hosts accounts for UAF Departments and Organizations. Faculty members can obtain web space on the Faculty Web Server. Students can obtain web space from the Student Web Server. Personal web accounts for other individuals can be obtained from the Deparment of Mathmatical Sciences; Computer Science Department, Chapman NT Computer Laboratory, located in room 103 of the Chapman building.
Departmental accounts are a shared resource for a department and are managed by one or more people within that department. Departments are solely responsible for the content of pages on their account and for the behavior of individuals using their account. In cases where a faculty member is teaching a class and needs web resources for it, the faculty member should look into either the Blackboard web server or the Faculty web server.

-
Check with your department to see if an account already
exists.
If you have no success at the department level, contact OIT or the System Administrator to ask. - If your department has no account, fill out and submit the Account Request Form.
- After an account has been created you will be contacted and given your account name and password.
Remember your initial password--if you forget your password down the road, call the System Administrator, and your password will be set back to the original.
How to change your password: Using SSH (windows
version, mac version), sign on to apache.uaf.edu,
using your userid and current password.
Type passwd
You will be prompted for the old password; type it in.
You will be prompted for the new password; type it in.
You will be prompted for the confirmation of the new password; type it in
again.
Type exit
We recommend at least 2 alphabetic characters and at least one non-alphabetic character.
When you need to give someone else the password, DO NOT SEND IT THROUGH EMAIL--it is not secure and could be stolen. Your account could then be used by someone unauthorized.
