Software Overview

University software is available to eligible users—depending on one's campus affiliation, licensing agreements, user location and computer ownership— via automatic installer using Software Center (for Windows OS users) and NTS Self Service (for Mac OS users), or via Manual Installation for users who are working on computers outside of the University Domain or downloading software that is only accessible via manual installation.

Desktop/Laptop enrolled in UA Domain

NTS proactively manages the entire lifecycle of all university-owned devices enrolled in UA Domain. This includes deploying and maintaining software, responding to security threats, distributing settings and software inventory. By enrolling your university-owned computer, you can install approved software on demand.

For authorization, the devices must either be physically on campus or you must be logged in to the UA VPN.

Software Center allows users to install licensed UA software on their Windows Computers.

  1. Open your Start Menu
  2. Navigate to Microsoft System Center -> Software Center
  3. Select software to install

NTS Self Service allows users to install licensed UA software on their Apple Computers.

  1. From your Macintosh HD go to the Applications folder.
  2. Open the 'NTS Self Service' application.
  3. Login with your UA username and password.
  4. Select the software you want to install.

Desktop/Laptop not enrolled in UA Domain

  1. Download files from Software Catalog ((UA log in required))
  2. Download or review installation instructions
  3. Manually install software.

Support

All applications are for educational use at the University of Alaska, or in some cases restricted to campuses as noted for individual applications.  Just because software is licensed or listed here does not mean the software is endorsed by or full support is provided by your local help desk or computing organization.  Check with your local support office to determine what software is recommended, supported, or deprecated.

Report problems with installers, applications, the KeyServer, or this web site to the NTS Service desk or submit an online service request.
