CampusPack Transition

UAF will be transitioning from CampusPack Blogs, Wikis, and Journals, to the native Blog, Wiki, and Journal Tools within Blackboard on July 1st, 2013.  As part of this transition, the ability to create new CampusPack Blogs, Wikis, and Journals, has been disabled as we start the data migration process.

Any new Blogs, Wikis, or Journals should be created using the native Blackboard Blog, Journal, and Wiki tools.

For courses that currently have CampusPack content, OIT is exporting the content and importing it into courses as a standalone webpage.

Why the Transition

The native Blackboard tools have the same functionality, but offer better integration with Blackboard.  This integration has also improved with the latest update to Service Pack 11.  The native tools now integrate fully with the new Global Navigation Menu, and are easier to create, deploy, and manage.  They also integrate better with the Grade Center, offering full support for the Needs Grading feature of Blackboard, as well as Rubrics and other grading tools.

Also, transitioning to the native tools will allow UAF to save money by not licensing a tool that less than 50 instructors have used in the past two semesters.

If you are as excited as we are about the new Blog, Wiki, and Journal Tools, make sure to keep reading to see side by side comparisons of the CampusPack and the Blackboard equivilants.
