Phishing Alert | Email Subject: "Hello"


OIT has been receiving notices of a phishing email making it's way into people inboxes.  The email reports the recipient's incoming mail is pending due to a database upgrade, and asked to verify the account.


If you have received this message in your Google Apps @ UA email account, you can report the message as a phishing attempt using Google's Report Phishing tool.

If you received this message in any other email account, please delete the message.

The email message is:

Phishing Form

The email asks the recipient to go a Google Docs web form.  The form asks for a Name and Password.

If you provided your Name and Password, you should immediately change your password using ELMO.

The form has been reported to Google, but feel free to us the "Report Abuse" link in the lower left corner of the form.

Phishing Indications

Here are a few of the things to look for when identifying this message as phishing:

  • The "From" showed University of Alaska Fairbanks, but the address is chtsiros@mfa.rg
  • The email asks you to "verify" your email account.
  • The login page is not a University of Alaska login page.
  • The form URL is not a University of Alaska address.

Please be aware of the addresses for your login pages.
