Getting Email, Computer and Networking Accounts

UAF E-mail Account Information

E-mail accounts are available to all UAF students, faculty and staff, and are automatically created upon hiring or enrollment.

  • Activating your E-mail account --use this link if you are new and need to find out your UAF username and set your account password.
  • Managing your e-mail account
    --this link takes you to Usermin help. Usermin is the new e-mail account utility that allows you to:
    • change your e-mail account password
    • forward your e-mail to another account
    • set a vacation message
    • check your disk quota

    Usermin can be accessed by typing the following into your browser:
    http://fnabc.email.uaf.edu/usermin/
    where 'fnabc' is replaced with your individual UAF email account name.
  • Departmental account form

  • For specific questions or assistance with your account, please contact the OIT Support Center at 450-8300 or e-mail helpdesk@alaska.edu.

WebMail Account Information:

UAF provides web-based access your e-mail called WebMail. To access UAF WebMail, browse to webmail.uaf.edu. You can also read mail from your UAF and other UA email accounts if you have them, from within the MyUA portal (see below); log in to MyUA and your email will be one of many information sources available from that single log in.

UA Central Authentication Service (AuthServ)

UA is transitioning to the use of more robust and secure technologies for authenticating users. Rather than each of many applications maintaining a list of users' account names, status, and passwords, a single repository with additional safeguards provides that service for many applications. In most cases, the applications never even get to see your password so they cannot reveal it to any other source (they rely instead on the authentication service to verify you are who you claim to be). Your password is encypted and stored in just one place (rather than in many different places which increases the possibility of being compromised), and a single user name and single password replace many different names and passwords with different requirements. Currently, about a dozen applications use this service, and several others are in the process of switching to it. The services below (UAOnline, UA Directory, and MyUA) are among those that use this new infrastructure, so you can access each of them with a single set of credentials - your UA Username and your AuthServ password.

UA Online Account Information:

All employees and students of the University of Alaska can access their individual employee or student information enumerated below via the UAOnline. * Benefits and Deductions History
* Leave History
* Job History
* Address Information
As a student, an individual will be able to access:

* Transcripts
