OIT Support Center - Help Desk: Internet Explorer - Modifying Pop-up Blocker for Banner 7

Purpose

This document explains how to modify the Internet Explorer (IE) pop-up blocker to allow pop-up windows from Banner 7. This only applies to computers that have Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed (IE version 6.0.2). Older versions of IE do not have a built in pop-up blocker. This change will not disable the IE pop-up blocker; only allow pop-up windows from University of Alaska websites to be displayed.

This document does not cover other types of pop-up blockers configured in browser toolbars such as Google, Yahoo, or MSN. For more information please refer to the vendor help sites: Google, Yahoo, and MSN.

Procedure

  1. If not already open, launch Internet Explorer from the desktop, start menu, or quick launch bar.

  2. Click on the tools menu at the top of the browser window. Go down to the bottom of the menu and click on Internet Options.

  3. A new window should appear. Near the top of this window will be several tabs. Click on the tab labeled Privacy.

  4. Near the bottom of the window is a section labeled Pop-up Blocker.
