Please join OIT, the UAF School of Management, and the Smits family for the Fred Smits 5K Run/Walk!

WHEN: Saturday, April 28th, 2012 at 10 AM
WHERE: The Run/Walk will begin and end at the UAF Patty Center parking lot

Fred Smits was a dedicated UA OIT Director from 1997-2011 and an avid runner over his lifetime. He ran a 10K every Saturday and tracked his progress in preparation for the annual Midnight Sun Run and other local races. Per his runner's log, Fred ran 411 consecutive weeks since May 2003, which he calculated at 3,144.9 miles. This is an event in honor of Fred, who died Saturday, April 30th, 2011, while running his 10K.

OIT and the SOM ask that participants consider giving to the Fred Smits MBA Scholarship set up at UAF by the Smits family. Donate via mail or online. See links below.

The undersigned further acknowledges that there will be traffic on the course route, and assumes the risk of running in traffic. The undersigned agrees that as a participant of this run/walk, the undersigned must take an active role in understanding and accepting these risks, conditions and hazards. The undersigned agrees to accept responsibility for their safety while participating in the event, and their safety is not the responsibility of the run/walk volunteers, University of Alaska, or other sponsors of the event.
