Disk
Quotas and
Cleaning
Up Your Email Box
Checking
Your Disk Quota in SquirrelMail (Webmail) :
To check your disk
quota in SquirrelMail:
- Login to SquirrelMail.
- In the Links
panel (usually on the right side of the browser
window by default), look for the Quota Usage bar
(shown below).

- As you use
more mailbox space, the green bar will change color. As you near
the quota limit, the bar will change from green to yellow. When
the quota is exceeded, the bar will turn red and you will see a
warning notice (shown below). This means you have entered
a 30-day grace period, giving you time to clean up your mailbox
(and still receive new mail). Do not ignore the warning!

Clean Up Your Mail in Webmail
Disk quotas for
email boxes have been turned back on to more efficiently manage
space on the Email Server. If you are seeing notices that your
disc quota is exceeded, it's time to clean up that Email Box. You
will need to login to Webmail to delete old email out of your account
to get it back under the quota limit.
Logging
in to Webmail:
Webmail can be
accessed from the Quick Links list on the UAF
Home Page, or you may
click on or copy the following URL into your browser:
http://webmail.uaf.edu/
Enter your user
name and email password to log in to your account.
Check Your Webmail
Trash Option Setting:
Once you've logged
in to Webmail, you may need to change the following option for
handling Trash to carry out the task of deleting excess email:
Click on the Options link in Webmail. The opened Options window looks like this:

In the opened
Options window, click on the Folder Preferences link.
Under Folder Preferences, you will see the option for Trash. There
is a pull-down list option beside it. If the menu is displaying "Trash",
you need to click on the pull-down menu and change the selection
to "Do
not use Trash." This option will allow your excess emails to
be deleted rather than just stored in a Trash folder (which does
not reduce your quota).

Once you have
selected the "Do not use Trash" option, click on the
Submit button at
the bottom of the page. Now you will be able to return to your Inbox
or other folders and delete any old and excess email out of your
Email Box, effectively reducing your quota to bring your account
within acceptable limits.
