The Data Center Operations (DCO) group, formerly known as Production Services, handles many "behind the scenes" tasks necessary to make an Information Technology operation run smoothly. You won't know their faces like you will the Desktop Support folks. They don't do the programming, or maintain the networks. University staff don't call DCO when they need help with their computers (well, not that they know, anyway!). What Data Center Operations does is provide services that these and other departments rely on, the unseen infrastructure. Data Center operations technicians monitor UA mission-critical applications, hosts, servers, and network systems 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. They monitor facility security and environmental systems, and they provide after-hours Help Desk coverage and user assistance. They and other DCO staff provide production services to the University of Alaska and handle the management of the University's confidential records, as well as maintain the Fairbanks Campus computer facilities.
