Campus Technology Services (CTS) provides technology resources to the University of Alaska Fairbanks and rural campuses. In support of the University’s academic mission, CTS staff work with faculty to implement a wealth of educational tools, such as Blackboard™, web-streaming, Smart classrooms, and Elluminate Live!™. We train and consult with faculty who want to examine digital technology and multimedia resources for academic use. CTS also explores new opportunities in instructional technology to meet faculty teaching needs; plagiarism detection, online paper-grading, and podcasting are only a few examples. If you are a faculty member with an innovative idea or approach to teaching, CTS can assist you throughout the development, deployment, and support phases.
CTS also provides resources for students, such as MyUA—the University of Alaska web portal born from students’ desire to access computing resources from a single sign-on. Students may access CTS-supported computer labs across the UAF campus, located in the Bunnell and Gruening Buildings, and the Rasmuson Library. CTS labs are designed to meet student needs for the latest computer hardware and software, high-speed internet connections, and various computer peripherals. To accommodate special-needs students, CTS works with the UAF Assistive Technology Department to provide screen magnifiers, large monitors, “Dragon Naturally Speaking” software, and other enhancements. Currently, CTS is exploring the Open Student Television Network (OSTN) for UAF student use.
