Vista Plus Upgrade

Overview
Welcome to the Vista Plus Upgrade project. The project site will contain information about the Vista Plus upgrade.

Purpose
The purpose of the Vista Plus Upgrade project is to upgrade the version of Vista Plus we use from version 4.31.10 to version 5.5.

Audience
The audience for the project site are the Vista Plus users and the technical staff responsible for the Vista Plus upgrade.

Non-functional Requirements
The upgrade to Vista Plus will meet these non-functional requirements:
  • Use a supported operating environment. HP-UX 11i v2 will be used to host our Vista Plus upgrade.
  • Use a clustered, highly-available database system. Our Oracle 10g database cluster will store the data for our Vista Plus upgrade.
New Features
Briefly, the upgrade to Vista Plus will provide these new features and enhancements:
  • Version 5 of Vista Plus introduced new PCL and PostScript report capture parsers. Vista Plus 4.x compatible PCL and PostScript report capture parsers are included and used by default.
  • Version 5.5 has faster multi-generation index searching. Search in Generations and Global Index Search feature options that let you speed up these types of searches.
  • Version 5.5 has options to index and search Offline Generations.
  • Vista Plus Web View no longer needs Java 2 Standard Edition (J2SE) installed on clients. The following browsers are supported on Windows only: Internet Explorer 6, Netscape 7.2 and 8.1.3, and Firefox 1.5.0.1 and 2.0.0.4.
  • Vista Plus Windows Client includes support for Windows Vista.
  • Vista Plus Java Client is discontinued.
  • Single Sign-On, such as with MyUA, and External Authentication, such as with AuthServ, are possible with Vista Plus Web View.
Milestones
  • January 13 - Unload of Vista Plus meta-data for referential integrity check.
  • TBD - OpenText will be onsite to do the trial migration. The trial migration will result in a Vista Plus 5.5 system with all of our production data. Note: reports.alaska.edu will continue to be the Vista Plus production system. Only testing will occur on the Vista Plus 5.5 system.
