Description

A battery backup system will be installed in the
Demarcation building to provide power to T1
and PRI equipment in the event of a power
outage.  The UPS will maintain the power load
while power to the Demarcation building is
switched from UAF power to GVEA power if an
outage does occur.

Comments

Outage is expected to momentary as power is
moved to the new circuits.  The outage is
expected to last only as long as it takes
equipment to reboot.
Additional time has been added as a
contingency.  However users should plan for the
possibility of multiple brief outages as the load is
switched to battery power for testing.

Affected customers

T-1 circuits going to the Geophysical Institute,
Alaska Satellite Facility, National Weather
Service, Video Conferencing Services ISDN line
and the University Bookstore. There is also the
possibility of dropped phone calls being made to
off campus locations, local and long distance.
Staff in some off campus locations may also
experience a short phone outage in the
following buildings:
Bowers and Old Upark.
