An Announcement in MyUA describes changes being made to the Bookmarks Plus Channel. As of December 12 you can add links of your choosing - without the clutter of links pre-populated by the system. Bookmarks Plus is a subscribable channel and it acts as a 'clean slate'. In other words, the channel does not retain the links you placed in it when you again subscribe to the channel. You can customize your Bookmarks Plus links each time you
use it on a new tab. Note that if you have already subscribed to Bookmarks Plus, the channel will not be affected by this change. For more
information about Bookmarks Plus and to learn how to add/delete links and/or folders, visit the help file in MyUA. For an explanation of how Bookmarks Plus differs from the Bookmarks channel, go to the MyUA

Got too many userIDs and passwords? The number and complexity of userIDs and passwords required to access UAF computing resources is the number one concern voiced by users to the Office of Information Technology.

Partial password relief was accomplished when OIT extended the expiration time for all @uaf.edu email accounts to 400 days from the last time your password had been set.

We are also taking additional steps to reduce the number of IDs required including identity alignment, adoption of UAusername standards and integration in MyUA. For more information, see the October 31 edition of the SunStar. www.uaf.edu/sunstar

Human Resources e-learning courses are now reachable in MyUA through new single sign on links.

An Employee Online Training link has been placed on the list of links on the Staff Resources channel and the Faculty Resources channel. At UAS, the link is found under the Useful Links category.

Click on the link, enter your UA ID number or UA user name and your MyUA portal/EDIR password - also known as AuthServ password (for UAF or UAA users, this may be different than the account you use to check email or sign into your computer.)

To achieve single sign on to e-learning, MyUA saves the account info this first time you enter it (and when you re-enter the info if your password changes or expires.)

During the pilot program, users are taken to the Online Training Welcome page. Click on the e-learning login button to gain immediate access to SkillSoft. For more information visit HR's e-learning welcome page (https://www.alaska.edu/hr/training/e-learning/skillsoft.xml) or contact Statewide Human Resources, Training and Development at syhrtraining@email.alaska.edu.

Higher education portals are "...emerging as key institutional interface for online resources.", according to Gartner, Inc. (http://www.gartner.com/DisplayDocument?doc_cd=148910) Gartner is an information technology research and advisory company. Each year, Gartner releases its higher education "hype cycle". The annual report highlights trends and assesses the maturity, impact and adoption speed of key technologies on campuses. In 2007, universities nationwide showed an increased understanding of portal technology's applicability and its benefits. Portals are very near the point at which their benefits are completely demonstrated and accepted - the final phase in the adoption hype cycle. In Gartner's opinion, only two technologies on campus are more mature: wireless networks and course management systems (such as Blackboard). The full hype cycle report is available only to clients subscribing to Gartner's services.

One Calendar for All Users:

The MyUA calendar is available to all portal users throughout the UA system for students, faculty and staff. It is the only universal calendar. Each MyUA user will find a personal calendar ready for their use. If you are a student or faculty, the portal software automatically generates a calendar for each of your courses. If you are in Group, you will also see that group's calendar. Consolidate your Calendars into One Master Calendar. If you have more than one, they can be selected from the pull down list. You can combine any or all of your calendars into one view. Follow the instructions in the help files in the portal or read the User Guide.

Key features:

Like most web based calendars, you can:

1. Invite others to events.
2. Accept and decline events.
3. Designate events as public or private.
4. Send meeting invitations to others.
5. View available-time information for attendees of an event.
6. View a group schedule (attendees' schedules side by side).
7. Schedule a resource such as a conference room or reserve an overhead projector.
8. Email invitations are automatically sent.
9. Email reminders are automatically sent.

Synchronize:
You can synchronize calendar events and tasks with Microsoft Outlook and handheld devices that support Palm and Windows CE operating systems. See help files in the portal or read the User Guide.
