WHEN: March 2, 2007
WHERE: University of Alaska Fairbanks Woodcenter
This day-long event is open to the public, and will feature demonstrations, and presentations which highlight
uses of the Instructional Technology that are transforming our classrooms.
What is Instructional Technology?
To appreciate the scope of Instructional Technology and its importance
to education, we could travel all the way to ancient Greece, to the
emergence of the pencil and tablet. It's hard to imagine modern
education without these basic technologies at hand, and while our box of
tools has expanded over the centuries, the dilemma that educators face
remains the same: how to facilitate student learning to maximum effect.
Present-day Instructional Technology includes text-driven and multimedia
web objects, high-resolution digital projectors, real-time applications
for collaboration, and touch-screen tablets for handwriting, just to
name a few examples.
What does Instructional Technology got to do with me?
The potential for Instructional Technologies to supplement traditional
educational settings is immense. Within the last ten years at least,
we've witnessed profound changes in the wake of the "digital
revolution," and these changes are not merely the domain of specialists.
Faculty and students alike play a role in shaping what our digital
landscape will become and, in the process, demonstrating how our
communication and instructional technologies constitute a network of
social interaction in a dynamic sense.
