Alaska BioPREP is a program funded by a National Institutes of Health Science Education Partnership Award (SEPA) and is designed to expand the experiences of our Alaskan community of science educators and learners. To do this, we provide biomedical research projects to high school students and teachers, with an emphasis on Alaska Native and rural participants. The projects begin with the intellectual rigor of scientific inquiry and then address the attitudes and social values conducive to learning science.   Pilot projects have proven that if we can engage students in rural Alaska high schools, they become science majors in college and in turn, enter science careers. We leverage the expertise of research faculty supported at the University of Alaska through three NIH funded infrastructure-building programs (COBRE, INBRE, and SNRP) to expand the knowledge base of teachers and students.
