Welcome to Employee e-learning at the University of Alaska
The University of Alaska offers
employees access to online courses on a multitude of topics at no
charge to you or your department. University employees will have continued access to these
professional development resources until January 30, 2009.
Please provide your feedback on an evaluation form regardless of whether or not you complete
any course, so we may better serve your e-learning needs. |
SkillSoft Corporation's online courses and job aids are available to employees through a learning
management system called SkillPort. You can access these on-line resources at your desktop or
at home if you have an internet connection (please see system requirements). Your learning results
are automatically recorded and transferred to your learning history within SkillPort.
In addition to the above "Login" link, employees may login to "Employee e-learning" through
UAOnline, MyUA, and some campus
HR offices' websites.
ON-LINE DEMONSTRATIONS on how to navigate through SkillPort are scheduled in May:
On May 16 (10:00 am to 11:00 am) and May 23 (1:30 pm to 2:30 pm), University employees
may attend either of these sessions.

Benefits of e-learning
- Access training anytime, anyplace.
- Learn at your own pace.
- Take courses on the internet, or download them to your PC and work offline.
Tips for getting the most from your e-learning experience
- With your supervisor, schedule your e-learning just as you would if you intended to go to a class.
Your supervisor must approve, in advance, all your e-learning coursework taken during work hours.
- To avoid interruptions at your desk, post a "Course in Session" note.
- Take Course Pre-test or pre-assessment for each course to pinpoint subject areas to focus on,
and skip material you already know.
- Use the reference materials and job aids that supplement the course.
- Take the Mastery assessments to ensure you've learned what you need.
- With 24X7 access, you may use e-learning at home or on the road to gain new knowledge
and skills in areas of interest for your own personal and career growth.
PILOT PROGRAM (June 30 - November 30, 2007)
Statewide Voice Newsletter regarding the Pilot
Competency Maps (DRAFTS) of UA Job Families: These maps are a "first-pass effort" at linking core
competencies with SkillSoft's e-learning courses. The maps need a closer review and internal vetting
before formalized usage at the University of Alaska. They are posted here for convenience, if a supervisor
or employee is interested in a list of SkillSoft's e-learning courses which may be beneficial for a particular
job family. Some job families could not be readily matched with SkillSoft's e-learning courses. The
inclusion on the list below only represents that the job family was included in SkillSoft's initial mapping process.
