PROJECT OVERVIEW
Development of a new
classification system for staff will support the University's goals
for recruitment and retention, workforce planning, performance management,
career development and a review of the compensation system. The
system will be used across the University, providing consistent
alignment of positions, structure for identifying career ladders,
and benchmarks for conducting external salary surveys.
The classification
system groups jobs into families. Each "job family" will
have several levels to reflect the nature and complexity of the
work. Job families are evaluated to link each level with a salary
grade. Individual positions are assigned to the appropriate family
and level based on the family concept and level descriptions.
A streamlined Position
Description (PD) Form replaces the JEF. The PD Form will also be
a useful tool for work planning and for providing performance feedback.
Job Families are developed
by task teams made up of Statewide and Campus Human Resources staff
and representatives of several UA departments who are familiar with
each category of work.
You are invited to review
this site and the draft and completed Job Families and share your
comments with Statewide Human Resources (syhrcd@alaska.edu)
or your campus Human Resources Office.
