Seawolf Alumni Show Strong Support of UAA

Beginning in July 2006 the University of Alaska Anchorage posed an ongoing challenge to its alumni: Make a difference for your alma mater. With the help of the Rasmuson Foundation, alumni of UAA were challenged to make a philanthropic gift for the very first time as part of the Rasmuson Challenge to Alumni. Any new alumni gift or pledge of $1,000 to the University was matched by the Foundation, doubling its impact.
2008 Angus Gavin Memorial Migratory Bird Research Grant

The University of Alaska Foundation announces the recipients of the 2008 Angus Gavin Memorial Migratory Bird Research Grant. Caroline Van Hemert a graduate student attending the University of Alaska Fairbanks has been awarded $15,000 for her research proposal entitled “Multi-species Investigation of Beak Deformities in Resident Alaska Birds”.

Kleinfeld receives 2008 Edith R. Bullock Prize for Excellence

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation gives $700,000 to increase Alaska Native Ph.D.s

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation will give $700,000 to the University of Alaska Fairbanks over the next five years to provide financial support to students in the dissertation writing phase of their doctoral programs. The aim of this gift is to increase the number of Native students earning doctoral degrees.

Foundation selects first Executive Director of Advancement Services

The University of Alaska Foundation has completed its search for a new executive director of advancement services. David Woodley, currently the foundation's Prospect Research and Management Director, has accepted the position.
GCI donates $30 million broadband gift toward education

George Happ biomedical scholarship announced

In Honor of Dr. George Happ’s outstanding contribution as a leader in research, the External Advisory Committee for Alaska INBRE (IDeA Network for Biomedical Research Excellence, Alaska) announces the “George Happ Biomedical Scholarship.” Graduate students majoring in biomedical fields will be eligible for the annual scholarship.
Chevron donates $1 million to the University of Alaska Anchorage

ANCHORAGE, AK – Chevron, one of the world’s leading energy companies, has donated $1 million to support the University of Alaska’s Alaska Native Science and Engineering Program (ANSEP) and the Process Technology, Instrumentation, and Computer Electronics programs located at UAA’s Kenai Peninsula College (KPC) Kenai River Campus in Soldotna. This gift is the largest single corporate gift that KPC has ever received in its 44-year history.
Bailout Bill Contains Good News for Donors

A section of the federal “Rescue Package Bill” just signed by President Bush contains a largely overlooked benefit for potential donors to the University of Alaska. The bill revives the provision that allows individuals to transfer funds from their Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA) directly to a charity and not have to recognize those funds as income (and hence subject to income tax). This incentive had previously been in effect for the 2007 tax year but expired on Dec. 31, 2007.
$4 million contributed to ANSEP

Industry partners and Native corporations have stepped up with the Rasmuson Foundation to create the Herbert P. Schroeder Endowed Chair of the Alaska Native Science & Engineering Program (ANSEP). The endowment, with pledged gifts in excess of $4 million, will ensure stable funding for a full-time, year-round faculty member dedicated to students enrolled in ANSEP.
