Fairbanks, Alaska— Paul Reichardt, provost at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, is this year’s recipient of the Edith R. Bullock Prize for excellence in service to the University of Alaska.
Hughes Family Supports UA Students with $276,000 Scholarship Gift

Anchorage attorneys John C. Hughes and Mary K. Hughes have donated $276,000 for the benefit of University of Alaska students. The father and daughter recently conveyed their individual interests in a Fairbanks real estate partnership to the University of Alaska Foundation. The proceeds of their gift will benefit student scholarships through the Patricia Ann Hughes Eastaugh Memorial Teaching Scholarship.
Single Largest Gift Ever Given to the University of Alaska by a Living Alumnus

University officials recently announced the single largest gift ever given to the University of Alaska by a living alumnus, and praised the donor, Alaska pioneer, Ronald F. Cosgrave for his generosity. Ronald F. Cosgrave’s $2.6 million gift was made without any restrictions and is to be used at the discretion of the University President.

Congratulations to Paul Reichardt, this year’s winner of the Edith R. Bullock Prize for Excellence at the University of Alaska. Reichardt is retiring as provost at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, capping a career in public service at the university that began 35 years ago.
Recent IRA Gift from Lind Illustrates New Giving Opportunity

The University of Alaska is sharing in some of the benefits of a recent tax law change that makes gifts from Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA) advantageous to donors. Marshall Lind, a past Chancellor of both the University of Alaska Southeast and the University of Alaska Fairbanks, transferred funds from his IRA to the University of Alaska Foundation earlier this year to support student scholarship funds at both institutions and in support of the Georgeson Botanical Garden at UAF.
University of Alaska Foundation Celebrates Record-Breaking Year

University of Alaska Foundation President Mary Rutherford said more than 5,900 individuals, businesses and foundations made charitable gifts totaling more than $23 million in support of University of Alaska programs and students. This compares to just over 4,700 donors who contributed $18.3 million the previous year. Many more individuals gave gifts. Individual giving represented 31 percent of the total contributions, compared to 10 percent the previous year.
