University Outreach

Alaska EPSCoR is a vibrant part of the University of Alaska community, and many of its outreach efforts are targeted at students and faculty across UA's main and rural campuses. These include:

AAAS. EPSCOR provides travel support for UA students to attend the annual American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Arctic Science Conference.

WAISC. EPSCoR also provides travel support for UA students and faculty to attend the Western Alaska Interdisciplinary Science Conference (WAISC), an annual event held in rotating Western Alaska communities. EPSCoR has provided travel funding for all five WAISCs, held in Dillingham in 2008 and 2012, Nome in 2009 and 2013, Unalaska in 2010, Bethel in 2011, and Kotzebue in 2014. EPSCoR also produced videos about the 2013 and 2014 WAISCs.

Association of Women in Science. Alaska EPSCoR supports the Alaska chapter of the Association for Women in Science (AWIS-AK) by funding the luncheon speaker at the annual AAAS Arctic Science Conference and by supporting an Alaskan AWIS member to attend the organization's national conference each year.

Internships. Alaska EPSCoR is supporting summer internships for students in the UA Resilience and Adaptation Program (RAP) focused on Alaska Native institutions and organizations.

Seminars and courses. EPSCoR holds at least four seminars on adaptation-related topics each year in conjunction with RAP. EPSCoR also supports an annual UAF graduate-level course in interdisciplinary science.

Training and orientation. EPSCoR has provided support for Responsible Conduct of Research training and for graduate student orientation on the UAF campus.
