Public Outreach

Many of Alaska EPSCoR's outreach efforts reach beyond the confines of the UA and connect with the wider community. These include:

Alaska TREND. Alaska EPSCoR partners with the Technology Research and Development Center of Alaska (TREND) at the University of Alaska Anchorage to provide small grants to Alaskan startup businesses seeking ot secure larger federal funding.

Newsletters. Alaska EPSCOR publishes newsletters at least once a year to update stakeholders on reearch and outreach efforts. To subscribe to the print version email

Social media and videos. In addition to the newsletter, EPSCoR continually updates this website and engages in several forms of social media, including Facebook and Twitter. Alaska EPSCoR has also produced a series of video spots highlighting current research and outreach, which are posted on the organization's YouTube channel and broadcast on local TV.

Regional Outreach Workshops. EPSCoR is holding a series of workshops at test case sites that bring together faculty, students, stakeholders, and community members to interact and share results.

Grant-Writing Workshops. EPSCOR holds free proposal-writing workshops in conjunction with its annual All-Hands Meetings, following the format of a pair of highly successful workshops conducted by the Alaska Funding Exchange in 2011 and 2012.

Public speakers. Alaska EPSCoR sponsors a number of lectures and presentations on relevant topics. Recent speakers have included Lindsay Correa of the California Delta Science Program, who spoke on “Integrating Science, Management and Policy to Achieve Competing Goals in the California Delta,” and Colin Murrell, director of the Earth and Life Systems Alliance at the University of East Anglia, who spoke on “Fighting Climate Change with Microbiology.”
