Playing movies

The Status bar

As the movie loads the grey status bar lets you know how much of the movie has been downloaded (see below).

Above - about one third downloaded.

Below - three-quarters downloaded.



Press play

You can start playing the movie before it has all downloaded. If you are connecting at normal speed you should be able to press play almost immediately and the movie will play straight through. The play button is on the left end of the bar (see below).



The middle button plays the movie (see below).



If you want to pause the movie press it again.


If the movie stops playing half way through

If the download slows down - because the net is very slow for example - the movie will pause.
Press play again when the movie has finished downloading (see below).

You can't hear the sound?

If you cannot hear the movie check the following:

1. You have installed Quicktime. Need help doing this?
2. The movie has downloaded and you have pressed play. See help on using quicktime.
3. Your computer has a soundcard and speakers or headphones are connected.
4. Set the volume levels in Quicktime by clicking on the volume button on the far left of the status bar (see below).
5. Check that you have your computer's sound is switched on:

Windows (see below) look at the volume control - bottom right of screen:



Macintosh (see below) use the control strip:


Rewind / fast forward

To the right of the status bar are two buttons that let you rewind or fast forward the movie (see below)



The third button lets you adjust your settings for Quicktime, inclusing the connection speed.
