About Vital Signs

Alaska has been a leader in delivering high quality health care to its citizens, especially in rural and remote locations. Alaska's health professionals and researchers have been innovative in their efforts to improve the health status of the people in the largest yet most sparsely populated state. Vital Signs: Caring for Alaskans is a series of eight one hour television programs, with radio and internet components, that take an in-depth look at some of the research projects, healing programs and health related problems facing the 49th state and her people.

AlaskaOne and KUAC-TV partnered with The University of Alaska to produce this programming and find portals to show it in Alaska, the Arctic and around the world.

AlaskaOne and KUAC-TV have earned a respected role in our state for creating television that raises spirit while also raising awareness. As part of that tradition, early last year KUAC-TV began to explore the possibilities of creating a series on emerging efforts in health, science and social service that impact the lives of all Alaskans

The team determined the best way to reach most people was to take a multimedia approach. The programs and the information will be available on television, radio and on the Internet. The stories will be available on-line to communities long after the initial television premiere.

Based on months of interviews with parents, health providers and scientists, AlaskaOne and the University have created a first in Alaska broadcasting, a series that will run on radio, television and the World Wide Web. "Vital Signs: Caring for Alaskans" is programming that makes a difference.
