Getting Started with Distance Education at the Universtiy of Alaska
With the University of Alaska you have the freedom to explore your options in the world of distance and/or online education. Follow these six steps to get started:
Step 1: Discover the options
Whether you are interested in a single class or wish to enroll in a degree program, view UA class schedules and degree programs. You may also wish to visit Frequently Asked Questions for additional information.
Step 2: Contacts for Distance Education
If this is your first class at the University of Alaska, or if you are just beginning your college-level experience, please contact the distance education office at the campus of your choice for information on admission and degree program requirements.
Step 3: Register for classes
New students please contact the appropriate campus to register, or print and fax the course registration form to the appropriate campus. Returning students can register by UAOnline.
Step 4: Setting up email and Blackboard username/passwords
UAA, UAF, UAS have different processes for setting up email, Blackboard and Elluminate Live accounts. Please refer to the UA Student Guide for specific processes, or contact the respective campus.
Step 5: Locate your class web site
Use Blackboard to locate your course website, making sure you search for the correct section number for your course (ex. ENGL 111-PX1), as on-campus course web sites are also accessible via this method.
Step 6: Order course materials
In some cases, course materials will automatically be sent to you after you register. In other cases, you will order books through the bookstore for your campus.
