MyUA Help - Email

The system you are using provides quick access to your most current e-mail messages, your address book, or the ability to send a new message through an E-mail Channel that can be placed on the tabs that appear in your layout. Typically, the E-mail Channel will be included as an element on one of your default tabs. However, like most other channels, it can be added to any new tabs that you create, or even arranged in your current layout to suit your preferences (provided your institution has allowed these actions).

A typical E-mail Channel is illustrated below:

Notice that the E-mail Channel provides useful information about the five most current messages that you have in the inbox of your default e-mail account, including who the message is from, its subject, its size, and the date it was received. Clicking on the subject line of any of the messages opens the E-mail Center to display that message. The list of current messages is refreshed periodically based upon a value set by your institution. (Typically this is 10 minutes.)

Above the message list, the E-mail Channel provides information about the number of messages that you have in your account and how many of these are unread, as well as your e-mail address for the account. The channel also provides three icons that appear below the message list: Compose, which opens an e-mail composition window from which you can address, create, and send a message; Address Book, which opens the E-mail center to the Address Book tab; and E-mail, which opens the E-mail Center to a default view in which no message is preselected for display.

If you don't already see the E-mail Channel in your layout, you may be able to subscribe to it. For additional information on adjusting layout preferences like number of columns, column widths, and the channels that you can subscribe to and their order, refer to the help topics contains in the Portal folder in the Help Topics Index.
