What is Alaska Tech Prep?
Alaska Tech Prep is a school-to-careers strategic partnership between secondary education, post-secondary education, regional training centers and business and industry that prepares Alaska's young people for today's skilled workforce.
Alaska Tech Prep provides strategies enabling students while still in high school to:
- Begin a course of study that leads to industry recognized credentials, certificates or a degree early.
- Start on a career pathway that seamlessly connects to postsecondary, apprenticeship or workforce training programs.
- Earn college credit or advanced standing in school to apprenticeship without duplication of efforts.
- Prepare to enter and succeed in postsecondary institutions, training and high demand, high skills and/or high wage jobs in Alaska.
Alaska Tech Prep uses a Program of Study (POS)—a sequential course of study that aligns high school to college education and workforce opportunities as part of a career pathway. Students engage in rigorous career and technical education programs that ensure the academic and technical skills needed to attain industry recognized credentials, certificates or degrees and advanced placement in high wage, high skill or high demand employment.
Alaska Tech Prep provides the framework for students to seamlessly transition from school to careers: empowering Alaskan youth for today’s high skill, high demand and/or high wage jobs.
