Career Pathways

Providing the Road Map

School guidance counselors and advisors juggle numerous duties that are diverse in nature from administrative to students. Alaska Tech Prep shares a similar focus: student achievement. The purpose of Alaska Tech Prep is to provide opportunities for students to develop academic and technical skills, transfer these skills to the world of work and both enter and retain high wage, high skill and/or high demand jobs in Alaska. Where to start? Alaska Tech Prep uses a Program of Study (POS)—a sequential course of study that aligns high school to college education and workforce opportunities as part of a career pathway to career readiness. A program of study provides a basic road map for students and parents to identify the next step supporting seamless, non-duplicative transitions. Students engage in rigorous career and technical education programs that ensure attainment of both academic and technical skills needed to attain industry recognized credentials, certificates or degrees and advanced placement in high wage, high skill or high demand employment.
