Richard C. Wood 1917-1919

1875  Born

1898 Went to Dawsom in Klondike stampede.

1904 Est. Fbks Banking Co., together with E.T. Barnette and J.W. Hill; later absorbed in the Washinton-Alaska bank, which closed its doors in 1911as an insolvent institution.

1908 Resigned as cashier of the Fairbanks Banking Co. and soon after organized the First National Bank of Fairbanks, becoming its president and manager. (in 1987 it merged into Alaska Pacific Bank than purchased by Key Corp. and changed their name to Key Bank of Alaska)

1917 Wife divorced him alleging cruelty. Appointed to the board of trustees AACSM.

1918 - resigned from Board of AACSM.

1920 -married Marion Creamer. "Dick is one of the first comers to Fairbanks and is known to everyone, and the newlyweds are assured of happiness and prosperity from the start of their married life," the News-Miner reported in the wedding announcement.

1921 Sold his mining claims to the Hammon Dredging Company of San Fracisco.

1923 Wood played a key part in the development of aviation in Fairbanks for what he did to finance a company that bought the airplane from which Carl "Ben" Eielson  launched commercial aviation in Alaska.

1924 Resigned his bank presidency, selling his interests and went outside, where he engaged in banking enterprises.

1934 Returned to Fairbanks and became manager of the Fairbanks Agency Co., handling real estate and insurance.

1944, October 15 Died from suffocation.
