Frank Shaw 1917-1921

Shaw was born in Chico, California in the year 1875. His boyhood years were spent in Port Townsend, Washington, where he got his first newspaer job.
In 1901 he began a four year stint as a reporter for The Weekly Alaska Prospector in Valdez. After that he spent a year as a reporter for te Nome Nugget. In 1905 he ventured to Siberia for eight months. By 1909 he was back in Seward as editor of the Seward Gateway - a position he maintained for approximately five years. During that time he married a Miss Margaret E. Lyons.
By 1913 he was appointed the U.S. Commissioner in Nelchina and by 1915 he became editor of the Cook Inlet Pioneer and Knik News. After which he began a year as editor of the Anchorage Daily Times in 1916.
He was appointed to a five year term as a founding member, of the board of trustees, to the Alaska Agricultural College and School of Mines by Governor Strong in 1917. During that intial year of the college development he lived in New York City. By 1918 he was back in Anchorage as editor of the Anchorage Daily Times and within a year of that he became editor of the Alaska Weekly Dispatch in Seattle. In 1923 - 1931 he became news editor and director of the Alaska Weekly also in Seattle.
At the age of 56 on March 14, 1931 he died in Seattle.
